06 United Football Club (the
“Club”) was established in June 2006 by a group of
passionate players in Queens, New York. The initial
objective of the Club was to gather more players for regular
practices and organize ourselves as a well recognized team
and participate in soccer tournaments across NY and NJ. In
2014, the Club began to recognize the lack of affordable
soccer training opportunities for children, in particular
for low income families in the metropolitan area. The key
members of the Club strategically decided to establish a
youth training academy (volunteer-based) and registered as a
U.S. 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. To date, the Club
has appropriately 400+ members, including coaches and
volunteers, and had since acquired multiple community
partnerships to support our adults and youth units. We also
proudly became an official Youth Partner of the NYC Football
Club in 2019, and had received exclusive benefits to reward
volunteers, fundraise, and educate our players & coaches.
The NYC Football Club has provided the Club access to
on-field experiences, chalk talks, and the chance to see our
club name in lights at Yankee Stadium.
The goal of the Youth Academy
is to provide proper, affordable, and safe soccer training
in a diverse and inclusive setting to all children whom are
interested. Initially, the trainings were held on weekends
only and in the warmer seasons at parks in Queens, Brooklyn,
Manhattan
and Staten Island. All of our trainings are situated around
neighborhoods, where most low income families reside with
easy transportation access. In 2016, the Club started an
advanced training program in the winter season for youth
members whom would like to continue their practices
throughout the cold months. By popular demand, the Club
started a summer camp program in 2019 and provided more
training opportunities on weekdays during the off-school
months.
What’s the
point of training without showcasing our talented players in
completions? The Club is committed to participate in various
soccer competitions across NYC and had hosted multiple
events of its own. Our first official event, the annual
internal tournament for adult players, began with only 20
players in 2013 to now over 50 players in 2019. In 2015, the
Club hosted the first internal soccer tournament for our
youth members and has continued the tradition annually. The
youth tournament was structured to set up teams across our
Brooklyn and Queens Academies and enabled the children to
meet, compete, and learn among each other. In 2016, the Club
proudly hosted an event called the “06 United 10 year
Anniversary Charitable Soccer Tournament” and invited 16
soccer teams (youth and adults) across the city to
participate. In 2018, the Club hosted our first “Machine
Cup” and “Machine Youth Cup” tournaments. Overall, all the
events hosted thus far were supported positively by the NYC
soccer community and considered greatly successful in terms
of participation and feedback received.
